Chaga Chai Recipe

Chaga Chai Recipe

Chaga Chai–my favorite autumn drink!

Chaga is a mushroom which not only has a rich coffee-like taste when made into tea, it’s also an antioxidant and supports the immune system.

Yummy and good for you? Win/win!

While Chaga may be new to you, it’s been in use for thousands of years… 5,300 to be exact! Ötzi the Iceman, the oldest known natural mummy, carried Chaga with him in a bag.

Chaga is delicious ground and used instead of, or half and half, with coffee. But my favorite way to drink chaga is as a chai.

Here’s my recipe. I make a batch and then use a heaping teaspoon per cup of water. Simmer for 20-30 minutes.

1 cup dried chaga
8 anise stars
1/4 cup cinnamon chip
1/4 cup cardamon
1/8 cup nutmeg
16 black peppercorns

  • To brew a cup, boil 1 1/2 cups of water in a small pot. Add a heaping teaspoon of Chaga blend and a 1/2″ piece of fresh ginger. Simmer for 20 minutes, then add 1 cup of a milk of your choice.
  • Simmer for a for a few more minutes. Add your sweetener of choice. I like maple syrup or honey.

Other herbs you can add to taste:

  • astragalus
  • dandelion root
  • burdock root
  • ashwaghanda
  • licorice

Enjoy!
