I used to wear Jasmine essential oil with a smidge of lime as my daily scent.
One morning in a hurry, I raced down the stairs, dabbing some on my neck, then stashed the bottle on the kitchen table as I ran out to a meeting. When I came home there was a perfect ring where the apparently leaky essential oil bottle had been sitting.
I knew essential oils were potent (I use orange oil mixed with baking soda and sprinkled with white vinegar to clean the baked-on goo off the bottom of my oven; this stuff is no-nonsense!), but I have to admit eating through a finish was a bit unexpected.
Even knowing this, I used an essential oil diffuser with plastic innards for years. And then one of the women in The Medicine Keeper’s Collective said “is anyone concerned about essential oils eating through the plastic parts in our diffusers?” Duh! Of course.
As plastic breaks down, it emits estrogenic chemicals (which is why you’re not supposed to re-use plastic water bottles) and here I’d been diffusing these plastic-y compounds into my home. Join me in saying a big “Ick!”
So I asked Andrew to source something with glass insides. Meet the nebulizer, a non-plastic way to diffuse essential oils.
I love these things. First off, they’re pretty inconspicuous (my first diffuser looked like a squat black toad. Ugly little bugger). And they use cold air to diffuse the essential oil.
(BTW, if you’re wondering why I don’t use the ceramic essential oil burner with a candle: those are great for scent but the medicinal qualities of the oil degrade with heat. So if you’re using the oil for a cold or for calming, you want a cold air diffuser, which protects the chemical constituents of your essential oil.)
And this is the perfect time to grab yours (as well as some essential oils to go with it) because this month all of our oils as well as diffusers and nebulizers (such as this one by AromaLuxe) are 20% off.
