Try making cordials for some old fashioned yumminess that can be used to create a number of modern-day taste sensations!  I love making ginger cordial to add to seltzer.

And it’s super simple.   

Here’s what you need:

  • 2 cups of fruit and/or herbs
  • 1 cup vodka
  • 1 cup warm sugar water

Mix vodka & sugar water.

After the vodka and sugar water are mixed, pour over fruit & herbs.

Mix in a large jar, seal and let sit for 3 months (it’s tasty after just a couple of hours but it gains in complexity over time). Strain and bottle.

Cordials will last for about 2 years if stored in dark glass.

Basic Sugar Water for Cordials

Saturate 2 cups boiling water with raw sugar.   Usually this means 1.5 cups sugar to 2 cups water.  People often ask if they can use honey instead of sugar.  Honey has a heavy flavor and will color the cordial toward the brown.
